Biography

Leila Mourad was an Egyptian singer and actor from a musical family. She trained with her father Zaki Murad and Dawud Husni, developing a career across concerts, radio and cinema.

Dar al-Hilal’s memoir recap describes muwashshah lessons with Dawud, dawr with her father and oud with Muhammad Subayh. She recalled encouragement from Umm Kulthum and Muhammad Rifaat in the studio. This testimony remains mediated through a cited Al-Kawakib issue whose original has not been inspected.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina describes her voice appearance in Al-Dahaya followed by acting opposite Abd al-Wahhab in Yahya al-Hubb in 1938. It traces her musical films with Togo Mizrahi. The first film’s chronology and Yawm al-Safar credit differ between accounts.

The Arab Encyclopedia describes her films with Anwar Wagdi and Muhammad Fawzi, and compositions by her brother Munir Murad.

Al-Qaid’s 1996 essay quotes her describing motherhood, a temporary break and unsuccessful attempts to return to cinema. He reports her attending the film critics and writers’ tribute in 1977. The quoted interview’s own date remains unresolved.

Ghareeb reports a 1978 Abu Dhabi television trip with Baligh Hamdi.

Ghareeb’s reproduced death certificate records Misr International Hospital and 21 November 1995. Its blank birth field leaves competing birth years unresolved.
